This week I learned...
*That name brand isn't always better. I've been making my Chocolate Cream Cheese icing for YEARS, using the "store brand" 1/3 less fat cream cheese. This past weekend for a special cake, I decided to use the "popular" brand of the same style cheese. It left little white bits in the icing, and I wasn't real happy with the smoothness and texture. It tasted just as good, and I'm probably the only one who knows about the "white bits", lol...so that's a good thing!
I'm sure I learned plenty more this past week, but for the sake of time, I'm gonna leave it there! :)

i almost always use store brands. except tissues. my family revolts if i buy anything but puffs :-)

I make sure when I write the recipe for someone else, to say that! lol
Great lesson - it just goes to show that store brands can be better. Same here in the UK.

I'm a store brand kinda gal, as well. More often than not, they're made by the same companies, anyhow.

I agree! There are certain items of which we prefer the store brands over the name brand.

ReplyDeleteHi Kiki, thanks for stopping by my blog. I too can relate to the Samarian Woman at the well, especially being a divorced single mom. You said it perfectly about live being verses. The Samarian woman was transformed. She went from arrogance in not wanting to serve water to Jesus, to shame in not mentioning her ex-husbands, to submission to God's word, to believer, then messenger, finally self-respect, and then servant of God.

Interesting! I buy a lot of store brands, but cream cheese is one that I haven't tried. Maybe cause I'm from Philly? LOL
