Friday Funnies - Most Embarrassing Moment

Well, I've had so many embarrassing moments in my life that it's hard to choose which one to share, lol. I am a self proclaimed, extremely graceful clumsy gal...not sure how those things mix so well with me, but they just seem to!

Today I'll share a story that dates back 18 years...

I was a young Mom, in my early 20's and I went to visit my sister at the beach in Maryland with my 2 year old son. Well, as I said this was a LONG time ago, I was in my "bikini" stage of life, :). I grew up on a border town and at that time lived in San Antonio, I wasn't a "beach" girl and VERY unfamiliar with the power of waves.

I decided to head into the water and enjoy some fun in the waves while my sweet little boy sat on the beach blanket with his uncle. As I stood there in knee deep water facing THE SHORE, waving and smiling at my precious little son,...an enormous and quite powerful wave came up behind me...next thing I knew I was rolling around in a whirlwind of water, sand and shells, my hair tangled around my face and I was trying to frantically figure out which way was up.

I finally stood up, facing toward the open waters. I was completely disoriented, my long hair now filled with sand and shells and wrapped around my head and face. I was just in that moment of trying to sort out what had happened when I noticed three teenage boys standing about 8 feet in front of me with smug looks on their faces,...one of them laughingly said "I bet you're pretty embarrassed, huh?"...that was the moment that I realized my bikini top was COMPLETELY out of place, not covering ANYTHING that should be covered....YUP...I was embarrassed. I yanked and tugged things back into place and headed toward my beach blanket with my tail between my legs.

Learned a lesson that day...don't turn your back on a wave!

Friday Funnies - My Dog

Today I don't have a funny STORY, but I will share something that makes me smile - this is a day in the life of my Boxer Dog - Stormie. :)

Each day begins with brushing her teeth, then they need to be inspected...

"Wow! My teeth are really nice, aren't they?"

Next, she has to get ready for a day of running errands...

"Watch out boys - here I come!"

With so much to do in the day, she uses car time for a little quiet meditation...

"Please let the people take me out for steak,...please let the people take me out for steak...I'll be good, I promise"

Poor thing, after running errands all day, she comes home and has to clean up the house...

"WHO made this mess???"..."you people can't be trusted alone anymore"...

After that, she was in need of a quick nap...

"Hello!!!! I'm expected to get comfy on a hard bench? See what I have to put up with?"

Every afternoon, she sticks to her rigorous "Bed Aerobics" routine...how else could she keep that girlish figure?...

"Sit, Stay, Roll Over, Jump...come on girls - you can do it!"

After a quick shower it's off to her photo shoot for Dog's Illustrated...

"This is humiliating,...who's idea was this?...Hey! Are you laughing at me...this so NOT funny!?"

"Somebody is going to pay and pay BIG"

Of course, there's always time for a dinner date...

"Do I look gorgeous or what??"...

"Look at my face...do I look ready for bed to you??? I am EXHAUSTED."
"A few hours of shuteye and it all begins again..."

Friday Funnines - Slip N' Fall

For today's edition of Friday Funnies, I am again, my own worst enemy. Why is it that I have so much "material" involving myself????

The story goes like this...6 years ago we had a large family reunion in Fredericksburg, TX to celebrate my Grandaddy's 90th birthday (side note - he is still with us and celebrated his 96th this June!). Several of my siblings were staying at a Bed and Breakfast and we had all gathered there to hang out and do what siblings do...

I decided I wanted to get a group shot of the family members that were at the house, so I proceeded to set up my camera several yards back from the group, because that was the only way I could get everyone in the shot.

Here are the "Circumstances":

Setting timer on camera

Moist dewey grass

Long distance to run

Running fast

Slick bottom, slip on sandals

The result: As I ran toward the group, my feet slid out from under me and I ended up "sliding into first base",...or my sister. :)

I love this photo, because the timer went off and captured all the faces and reactions of the group.

You can barely see me, I'm laying on the ground, my sister Tina has bent down to make sure I'm ok - I was laughing hysterically. Neices and nephews laughing; my big brother takes the photo opportunity with the "whoa - what just happened" look; Sisters laughing; son claps for my performance and, of course, hubby gets it all on video. :)

I love how the little girl in the front (friend of one of my neices) is oblivious to the whole thing and smiling for the camera. :)

Friday Funnies - Cooling Crust

I don't have a photo to share on this funny, but I will try to give you a good visual. I enjoy cooking, and I have been told that I'm pretty good at it. However, although my hair is light brown, I am convinced that I have blonde roots because often times I do some pretty ridiculous things....

I was making this dessert (4-layer-pudding-dessert) for a large group that was coming for dinner. I was running a little behind and after I baked the crust it needed to cool completely before I could spread the pudding and other layers on top. I had the 9x13 pan sitting on a cooling rack with a warm flaky crust sitting in it.

In a moment of sheer...stupidity????.... I decided to pick up the pan and FAN IT IN THE AIR to cool the crust faster. Do you know what happens when you do something like that????

Let's do a slow-Mo thought process...

I lifted the pan quickly up and proceeded to fan it in the down the position. The crust however chose to stay in the air as I brought the pan down. Then the crust followed, landing all over the table, and some back in the pan, in chunks and pieces. Hmmmm, brilliant idea on quick cooling!!!!!!

Sometimes I question where my mind is - I am a pretty smart cookie, but sometimes I do strange things that have no explanation. However, all was not lost. I picked up the pieces and pressed them back into the pan. After it "cooled" the right way and the layers were all put together, no one would have guessed. :)

Friday Funnies - Goopy Eyelashes

WARNING TO WOMEN EVERYWHERE (OK, maybe only the ones that don't live in snowy states...) DO NOT - I REPEAT - DO NOT wear mascara in sub-freezing temperatures....

I actually thought I was being admired for having snowflakes on my eyelashes,....um NO, my mascara had frozen and become wet and sticky like tar and plastered itself on my face, LOL...

Yes, I can officially say "Hi, my name is Kathy, and I am a dork"

Friday Funnies - Key Lime Cheesecake

This particular funny took place SEVERAL years ago (note: the youthful thighs and groovy early 90's clothing).


I had made a delicious Key-Lime Cheesecake for a going away party that we were holding at my dearest friend Kim's house. I safely managed to get the cheesecake there (still in the spring form pan). Kim wanted me to pose for a photo with it, and I placed one hand on the rim, and one hand flat on the bottom, "springing" the cheesecake out of the springform pan. It flipped upside down and hit the counter, then landed on my thigh, shoe and the floor.


OF COURSE, Kim and I ate the part that hit the counter, and it was VERY tasty, lol. Yup, this was not the first faux pas of that kind that I have made, nor was it the last... :)
