Cozy Kitchen Decor...

I love to decorate my home, and I like to try to think "out of the box" when I do it.  I want it cozy, and warm and inviting, I want easy access to items, but I also want "pretty...that's really important to me.
I try to think outside the box a bit, putting items in places they normally might not go.

Here is a corner of my kitchen counter, it's right next to my stove.  It's not a "prep area", so I don't need the space to be too open.  I love using crock and flower pots for storing utensils I use a lot.  They add texture and color, and keep the things I use all the time right where I need them.  But this corner is boring to me, and I don't like boring...

So I got this stuff...cheap coffee beans, a small pillar candle, and an inexpensive container of some sort...

Place a few beans in the bottom of your container, pop your candle in there and surround with beans....set it in front of an inexpensive little mirror from wally world and voila...instant pretty.  A nice glow in the kitchen makes me smile, and the light is reflected off the mirror.  I also added a cute little magnetic board agaist the backsplash!  I love pretty... :)

What do you like to have on your kitchen counters?

  1. I love your candle idea, so cute. I don't have much counter space so I try not to put much on them but some things just have to be on the counter top. I have a recipe book holder and some cute glass jars with oil and peppers in them. My sister in law didn't want them anymore so I said that I would take them lol. Love free stuff. I also have two canisters that hold flower and cookies. I have a huge microwave that takes up a lot of space but gotta have that, right?

  5. Hmmm, looks like someone spent some time at Deb's house. Uh huh. I recognize that magnetic board. I love the candle and mirror. I also love to have a few mirrors just a bit higher, you know, so I can see the real beauty in the house - ME! haha. Love you sis

  7. Shoot, right now, my kitchen counters are completely covered in dirty dishes! >:\ Pitiful, ain't it, when a woman is sick for a week and as soon as she gets better, she has to spend two days cleaning the mess the guys left? Seriously, the only thing left clean is a spatula. Helpless? Hopeless? Just plain lazy? I'll think about it tomorrow... tomorrow's another day... 8-}

    Love ya loads, swee' pea!
    Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

  8. That's a great idea, Kathy! I have a little space one the side of my stove too!

    I don't like to have too much stuff on the counters, besides the canisters and microwave.

  11. I have to be careful what I put on my kitchen benches at the moment as my kitten (Ruby) loves to run along them. Her favourite activity at the moment is playing with the bubbles in the sink - what would she do with a candle!! But I do like that idea - I like smelly ones.
